Airbus Foundation And Humedica Coordinate Relief Flight To Nepal

Airbus Delivers A320 To Nepal Airlines, Loaded With Relief Supplies

The Airbus Foundation, the German Non-Governmental Organization humedica e.V., and Nepal Airlines have used the delivery flight of a Nepal Airlines Airbus A320 from Hamburg to Kathmandu to transport eight doctors and medical specialists to Nepal.

The multinational humedica team consists of surgeons, nurses and medical coordinators from Germany, UK and the Netherlands. They will support those affected by the earthquake in Nepal with urgently required medical supplies and services.

The flight took off from Airbus’ Finkenwerder Airport in Hamburg at 14:45h local time on Thursday. The Airbus A320 was loaded with more than five metric tons of relief goods and medical equipment. Humedica and the Airbus Foundation have been cooperating in the organization of relief flights since 2013. Also on board were relief goods collected from Nepalese communities in Hamburg and Nepalese Airbus employees, as well as two volunteering Airbus flight training pilots who will support Nepal Airlines with their operations at their home base during these difficult times.

“We cannot thank the Airbus Foundation enough,” said Wolfgang Groß, Chairman of humedica e.V. “The continued possibility of using a delivery flight for transporting our medical teams and goods is of vital importance to those people in need. They are at the heart of our activities.”

“Following the successful first ever humanitarian mission of the A350 XWB to Nepal earlier this week, I am proud that we can continue to support the Nepalese people in these difficult times. The cooperation of humedica and Nepal Airlines with Airbus and the Airbus Foundation has been very efficient. It has allowed bringing much needed medical personnel and relief goods to the Nepalese people. I sincerely thank our partners for their tireless efforts towards making this mission possible,” said Fabrice Brégier, President and Chief Executive Officer of Airbus and member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
