What The...? 12-Year-Old Evades Gatwick Security

Also, Man Detained Trying To Recover Wallet

For all the talk of tougher security at British airports in the past week -- and the resulting delays and hassles to passengers -- it would appear there are a few bugs still to be worked out in the system.

The Associated Press reports British police briefly detained a man Wednesday who attempted to board an aircraft parked at Gatwick. He was reported by an airport cleaning person, after the man reportedly managed to bypass several heightened security measures at London's second-largest airport.

"[The man] was just returning to find his wallet," said an anonymous airport spokesman.

But,  sadly, it gets worse... as Wednesday's incident comes one day after a 12-year-old boy was able to get on a plane at Gatwick without either a passport, or a ticket.

The boy, who reportedly had run away from a care facility, was discovered by a member of the Monarch Airlines cabin crew after he was seated -- and had already been given a drink and a snack -- but before the aircraft took off.

"The boy had passed through a full security screening process and we are confident there was no threat to passengers, staff or the aircraft at any time," British Airport Association spokesman Stewart McDonald told CNN.

The BAA operates Gatwick, Heathrow and five other major UK airports. The agency has launched an investigation into both incidents.
