First Airbus Parts To Arrive In Mobile In Mid-June

Will Arrive At The Alabama State Port On Father's Day

The first major assemblies for Airbus airplanes to be manufactured in Mobile, AL will arrive on in mid-June, according to Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL).

Television station WSFA reports that Byrne made the announcement during a forum held by the Mobile Area Chamber Of Commerce. "They're bringing in the big pieces of the airplane in Father's Day," he said. The focus of the forum was progress on a new bridge over the Mobile River.

Byrne said the parts will arrive at the Alabama State Port in Mobile and then be transported to the Airbus assembly facility. "That's a big event," Byrne said. "That's a big deal. In Europe, when they bring those pieces through a little town, everybody comes out, so I hope everybody in Mobile will come out and welcome the first big pieces of the airplane we're going to make in Mobile."

While the plant will begin assembling airplanes this summer, the official opening of the $600 million facility won't be held until September. The first U.S. assembled A320 is expected to be delivered to JetBlue in the second quarter of next year.
