Letter From Relevent Committee To Be Finalized January 17
The chairman of the aviation subcommittee of the U.S. House of
Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure,
Rep. Thomas Petri (R-WI), and the subcommittee's ranking member,
Rep. Jerry Costello (D-IL), have written a letter to President
Obama in opposition of aviation user fees before he releases his
recommendations for the federal budget. The president’s
budget proposal for Fiscal 2012 is expected to be released the
first week in February.
User fees have a negative effect on general aviation and
aren’t a necessary source of funding because of the
collection of aviation excise taxes.
HAI members need to contact their members of Congress and ask
them to sign onto this letter, which is very important and
beneficial to the aviation industry. The letter will be finalized
by Jan. 17, so it is very important to contact your representatives
immediately!
To get in touch with your representative, visit the House Web
site and choose your state. Representatives are listed alongside
their congressional district. Choose the representative for your
district and you will be directed to his or her homepage,
where you will find a phone number and e-mail address for
their Washington office. Call or e-mail and ask that they to sign
onto Petri and Costello’s letter opposing user fees in the
federal budget.
If your representative in Congress is a Republican, ask that
they get in touch with Petri’s office. If you are represented
by a Democrat, request that they contact Costello’s office to
sign on to the letter. When you call your representative’s
office, identify which district you are from and how your business
or general aviation activities contribute to the economy and
enhance the overall health of your district and state.
