Museum Holding Sweepstakes for Ride in Tandem Mustang, Warhawk, Spitfire
The American Heritage Museum has opened a fundraiser sweepstakes, with multiple vintage, classic warbird flights on tap for the selected winners. Dual-control variants of the Warhawk, the Mustang, and Supermarine Spitfire let anyone enjoy their time at the controls, each a treasured heirloom representing the greatest generation.
The top winner of the Ultimate WWII Fighter Experience Sweepstakes will head to London, England to go through abbreviated training at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar right outside the city. Even the scenic airfield made its bones as a WWII base, being a staging location for RAF pilots during the Battle of Britain and the Blitz in the summer of 1940. The winner will be paired with experienced flight instructors to get familiar with 3 rare dual-seat fighters of WWII: the P-51D Mustang, the Supermarine Spitfire TR.9, and the Curtiss TP-40N Warhawk, before going up for a flight in each one. Even in wartime, those who had taken each for a ride were a limited few, made even rarer after a couple lifetimes of attrition to the rest of the fleet. During the flight, winners will blast over the countryside of Kent and cross the English Channel, retreading the steps of aeronautical combat years before.
The fundraiser will go to support the American Heritage Museum in Hudson, Massachusetts, which is a 501c3 non-profit educational museum. All proceeds will be used to support the Museum’s educational programs and continued growth. The winner of the single fighter flight package will also receive a $2,000 travel allowance to ensure they can make it to Biggin. Tickets vary in price depending on quantity purchased, and greater quantities make for better prices. The drawing date is on July 29, 2022.
