Charity Flies 257 Cancer Patients In October
Talk about performing a
valuable -- make that priceless -- service.
Aero-News has learned the Corporate Angel Network -- a national
public charity which provides free air transportation for cancer
patients traveling to treatment, by using the empty seats on
corporate and fractional aircraft -- arranged a record-breaking 257
patient flights in October.
The previous monthly record of 253 flights was set in 2005.
"You’ve probably heard it said many times and it is true
for us," said Susan Griesbach, speaking of her husband Edward, one
of the 257 cancer patients Corporate Angel Network transported in
October. "Words can not express our appreciation and gratitude to
Corporate Angel Network and all the generous individuals and
corporations who have helped us fight this disease."
Edward Griesbach was flown to M.D. Anderson in Houston for
treatment of a rare type of cancer.
Corporate Angel Network arranges free flights for cancer
patients using the empty seats on corporate aircraft. Since its
founding nearly 25 years ago, CAN has grown to include 530
participating corporations, five paid staff, and a team of 50
part-time volunteers who work with patients, physicians, corporate
flight departments, and leading treatment centers to coordinate the
medical travel needs of cancer patients with the scheduled flight
activity of participating corporations.
To date, CAN has arranged nearly 25,000 flights and currently
provides more than 200 patient flights per month. CAN has received
numerous awards in recognition of its service to cancer patients...
including The Volunteer Action Award, the highest volunteer award
from the President of the United States.
