Hartzell Parent Tailwind Technologies Acquires Two Metals Companies

Mayday Manufacturing And Hi-Tech Metals Will Help Build Props

Two Texas-based metal manufacturing and finishing companies have been purchased by Tailwind Technologies, parent company of Hartzell Propeller.

Mayday Manufacturing, founded in 1966, is a supplier of bushings, pins, sleeves and other close-tolerance, precision-machined components for the aerospace industry. It is a supplier to Bell Helicopter, Boeing, Messier-Dowty, Goodrich, Heroux-Devtek and others.

Hi-Tech Metals, Inc. is a NADCAP accredited provider of metal finishing services, including anodizing, cadmium plating, paint/prime, black oxide, alodine and non-destructive testing.

Both companies are located in Denton, Texas, and will continue to be managed and operated by brothers Mike and Spence Nelson, whose father, Jim, established the businesses. Mayday and Hi-Tech employ more than 230 skilled people.  No changes to employment or business locations are planned.

Jim Brown III, president of Tailwind Technologies, said, "We are excited to add such capable companies to the Tailwind family of businesses," adding, "the new acquisitions support our ambitious growth plan and leverage our existing platform of capabilities by complementing our resident metal machining and finishing capabilities and adding to our commercial aerospace and defense presence globally."

Spence Nelson is bullish on the acquisition, saying, "We are excited about combining our operating skills with Tailwind.  We have tremendous growth prospects for both Mayday and Hi-Tech and believe we will be even better positioned to deliver to our customers as part of Tailwind."
