Sign O' The Times: AIR, Inc. Ceases Operations

Clients Directed To FltOps.com

As if we needed more signs of the sorry state of the economy, and the dearth of new commercial pilot jobs out there today. On Friday, airline job placement service AIR, Inc. will cease operations after 20 years of matching job-seeking pilots with airline employers.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you during the past 20 years. However, the current status of the airline industry and the economy has made our business unsustainable, and we are closing," AIR, Inc. President and Publisher Kit Darby wrote in a statement posted on his web site Thursday.

Darby added AIR, Inc. made arrangements with FltOps.com to provide existing members and subscribers with job placement services throughout the duration of their current memberships, at no additional charge. Like AIR, Inc, did, FltOps.com offers a Web-based pilot career information service, as well as a nationwide job fair program.

When members' AIR, Inc. subscriptions expire, membership in FltOps.com will continue at $4.95 a month, unless the subscriber cancels. "If you have a union sponsored membership other than ALPA the process will be the same at the end of your current term," Darby stated. For ALPA members, they won't be charged as long as their union dues are current, though they must renew to continue with FltOps services.

The current Web site will remain available to members or newsletter and magazine subscribers for the length of your AIR, Inc. membership or subscription. The final newsletter was posted on 2/11/2009, and the site will not be updated after that.
