Dash Cam Captures Aviation Accident Near Seattle

Pilot, Passenger Walked Away From The Accident, Authorities Said

A Piper PA-32-260 went down Tuesday shortly after takeoff from Paine Field in Seattle, WA, and the accident sequence was captured by a dash cam mounted in a car on a city street in Mukilteo, WA.

The Seattle Times reports that, according to the NTSB, both the pilot and a passenger, who have not been identified, reported that he had lost power shortly before the plane went down. It hit a powerline and a traffic signal before impacting terrain. A fuel tank was ruptured, and authorities say a car fire resulted from the spilled fuel. Fortunately, both the pilot and a passenger on board were able to walk away from the accident, according to the report. The plane did not catch fire

Police say several cars were damaged by debris. Two people on the ground reported minor injuries, according to the report.

The 30-year-old pilot refused medical treatment, according to the report.

The plane is registered to Klamath Aviation LLC in Klamath Falls, OR, according to FAA records. The company appears to be owned by Justin Dunaway, who holds a student pilot certificate. Dunaway, who said he was not flying the plane when the accident occurred, would not comment further.
