Sandel Upgrades SN3500 EHSI With LED Backlighting

Offers Cost Savings, 10,000-Hour MTBF

Sandel Avionics told ANN Monday the avionics maker recently began shipping an updated version of the popular 3-ATI SN3500 EHSI (electronic horizontal situation indicator) that features an LED (light-emitting diode) backlighting system.

Providing aircraft operators with improvements in display quality, product longevity and overall cost of ownership, this advancement replaces Sandel’s previous backlight technology with a long-life display rated at 10,000 hours mean time between failures.

Operational benefits of the LED backlighting upgrade include increased sunlight readability, resolution and color fidelity, along with enhanced unit life and dispatch reliability, and a significant reduction in maintenance costs and aircraft downtime.

"Seeing the dramatic improvement that LED backlighting offered in our 4-ATI systems, we made it a priority to upgrade the 3-ATI SN3500, to provide piston-aircraft operators with the same display enhancement, cost savings and other benefits," said Sandel CEO Gerry Block.

Located in Vista, CA, Sandel Avionics is a privately held company that provides compact integrated display systems for general aviation, business aviation, air transport and regional aircraft.
