Poberezny, Blakey Appear In FAA Sport Pilot Video

Program Highlights New Sport Pilot Rules

EAA President Tom Poberezny and FAA Administrator Marion Blakey will provide the introduction to a short video on the Sport Pilot/Light-Sport Aircraft rule to be used by FAA Flight Service District Offices (FSDOs) and other areas. Poberezny traveled to Washington (DC) last week, where he and the Administrator videotaped the segments.

The video, financed by FAA and produced by EAA Television, will be used to provide front-line FAA personnel an overview of the rule's basic elements. Areas covered include the scope of the new sport pilot certificate, aircraft category, instruction, and maintenance issues.
The video will also serve to reinforce EAA and FAA's commitment to SP/LSA's success when it is implemented, as well as emphasize the close working relationship between EAA and FAA. Administrator Blakey summed up here feelings about the approaching new rule by saying, "I truly believe in the sport pilot/light-sport aircraft rule and what it will do for the future of aviation. It is near and dear to my heart."

Poberezny, who also had the opportunity to meet with several top FAA officials Thursday to discuss various issues affecting homebuilt aircraft as well as sport pilot, added, "My visit to FAA headquarters these last couple of days has reinforced to me how important this rule is not only to the aviation industry but to government, who believes this will form the base of aviation's growth for decades to come."
