Whirly-Girls Scholarships Soar In Numbers

ERAU Sponsors Two Scholarships For The First Time

The sixty-year tradition of the Whirly-Girls Scholarship Fund to promote women in the rotorcraft industry has reached a new milestone. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) has, for the first time, sponsored two scholarships for Whirly-Girls members.

ERAU is offering a Commercial Helicopter Pilot Ground School course, which is an advanced 15-week online instructor-facilitated course that will provide the necessary information to prepare for the FAA Commercial Pilot - Helicopter Knowledge Exam. In addition, ERAU and Antipodean Aviation will provide a Whirly-Girl the chance to enroll in the online Wire and Obstacle Environment Awareness Course, an online course that provides pilots with knowledge to conduct safe operations in the low-level environment.

ERAU and Antipodean Aviation have partnered with Whirly-Girls International to assist women aviators in their career development. Dianna Stanger, President of the Whirly-Girls, stated, “ The opportunity to partner with ERAU, the world’s largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation, is a tremendous advantage for our over 1800 members in 45 countries.” Furthering the scholarship with ERAU, Antipodean Aviation has teamed with ERAU to mentor and prepare those for a career in aviation ensuring the successful career of the scholarship winners. “The building blocks that both of these scholarships will provide,” added Colleen Chen, Whirly-Girl VP of Scholarships, “will most certainly provide the best candidates for prospective employers. Top level scholarships from two of the best in aviation education.”

The Whirly-Girls Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, educational, and charitable organization dedicated to advancing women in helicopter aviation.

The application deadline is October 1, according to the organization.
