Issues of Importance, According to YOU!

ANN Reader Hugh Oldham, noting the publicity recently given to the military buildup around the Capital, warned of some of the government's unintended consequences:

He wrote, "...it’s just a matter of time before a GA airplane is shot down around DCA."

Bad news for fliers, and for airshows, too...

"Additionally, several civilian airshows are seriously considering canceling their events due to the increased uncertainty of the actions of the TSA related to GA aircraft. Please note: not due to increased terrorist threat, due to the increased threat of actions by our own government against honest US Citizens."

Sometimes, it's hard to tell who's "them" and who's "us."

"The problem is, most civilian airshows are philanthropic organizations raising money for local charities. If they make the necessary outlay of funds prior to event, only to have the event canceled by a government agency, there is no way to recover from the economic loss."

Mr Oldham added, "Bin Laden is winning. Not through Al Qaeda terrorist activity, but through the actions of our own government."
