Investors Business Daily Slams Pelosi Over Boeing/Labor Statements

Says Democrat Has 'Risen To Her Level Of Incompetence'

Investors Business Daily (IBD) Tuesday published a very blunt criticism of California Democrat and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her recent comments suggesting that if workers don't belong to a union, they deserve to be unemployed. IBD observes, "The Peter Principle applies to politics, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should be its poster child, having risen to the level of her incompetence."

Triggering the editorial was Pelosi's appearance on CNBC, where host Maria Bartiromo asked the former speaker if it's really OK for the Obama administration's National Labor Relations Board to shut down Boeing's new South Carolina plant simply because it's non-union. Pelosi immediately answered "yes." She then added that it would be better for the plant to stay open and unionize.

The IBD editorial recalls that the workers at the plant, which was formerly operated by Vought Aircraft Industries before the acquisition by Boeing, voted in 2007 for representation by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Then, the 2008 IAM strike against Boeing resulted in the layoff of the IAM members at Vought, which was a Boeing supplier at the time. Those workers at Vought were not amused, and voted by a wide margin to decertify the union the following year.

IBD notes that the IAM has donated almost $2 million to the campaigns of Democrats over the last two years, compared to just $34,000 in support of Republican candidates, and that a majority of money spent through federal stimulus programs has gone to subsidize unionized workers such as teachers and construction workers.

IBD also observes Pelosinomics holds that having workers receiving unemployment checks is good for the economy. "It injects demand into the economy," Pelosi said while still House speaker. "It creates jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name."
