John W. "Jack" Olcott, former head of the National Business
Aviation Association and a familiar voice in nearly all matters
concerning bizav, will be honored with the 2006 Elder Statesman
Award of the National Aeronautics Association at a dinner in
Washington on November 6.
In a career that spans over more than 40 years, Olcott served as
an editor and publisher of several aviation magazines. He has also
served on many high level aviation committees.
Olcott was president of NBAA from May 1992 to June 2003. Among
his achievements, Olcott led NBAA’s efforts to expand the
worldwide acceptance of general aviation as a form of
business transportation through various activities, including the
creation of NBAA’s European and Latin American trade shows,
EBACE and LABACE.
Olcott also served as chairman of the General Aviation Coalition
for two years. Working with other associations through the
Coalition, NBAA was successful in facilitating access to airports
and airspace while lobbying effectively against the imposition of
user fees for the GA community.
Olcott holds a masters degree in Aeronautical Engineering from
Princeton University and a masters in Business Administration from
Rutgers. Most recently, Olcott served as president of the New
Jersey Aviation Association, and he is currently president of the
General Aero Company, an aviation consulting firm located at
Morristown Municipal Airport.
Winner of numerous national honors and awards, Olcott holds an
air transport rating and several type certficates. He has logged
7,000 hours.
