Will Meet With Prospective Students Later This Week
More than 70 years after establishing Brazil’s first aviation school, representatives from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will meet with prospective students, families and national aviation industry leaders in Campinas, São Paulo and Belo Horizonte March 19-23, 2015.
Embry-Riddle’s connection to Brazil stretches back to 1943, when at the request of Brazil’s then Air Minister Joaquim Pedro Selgado Filho, Embry-Riddle established Escola Técnica de Aviacão, the nation’s first flight training school, in São Paulo. By early 1944 the school had basic, aircraft, engines and instrument departments, and received visits from such notables as then-American First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Embry-Riddle’s current partnerships with companies, government and universities in Brazil include offering academic programs, business development, and research & development.
Information sessions for future students and their families are scheduled for the following:
- Campinas – 5 p.m., March 19, at Hotel Vitoria/Sala Rhodes, Av. Jose de Souza Campos, 425 Campinas, SP 13092-123
- São Paulo – 2 p.m., March 21, at Hotel Intercontinental/Sala Giorgi, Alameda Santos 1123 São Paulo SP 01419-001
- Belo Horizonte – 5 p.m., March 23, at Hotel Promenade Golden Flat/Sala Phoenix, Av. Prudente de Moraes, 520 Belo Horizonte, MG 30380-002
“Brazil is part of Embry-Riddle’s history. It’s also a key player in our future,” said Embry-Riddle Senior Vice President of External Affairs and Chief Marketing Officer Bill Hampton. “It is a country experiencing a tremendous demand for advanced pilot training, so it’s vital that Embry-Riddle be part of that solution.”
According to the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC), the country has seen a 194 percent jump in aviation growth in the past decade, while pilot training capacity and demand is expected to continue to climb over the next 20 years.
