Officials Respond To Phone Threat Against Mumbai Airports

Anonymous Call Warned Of "Some Incident"

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 05.29.07 0945 EDT: Security officials in India are on alert after an anonymous threat was called in to one of Mumbai's two airports.

The threat, called in from a public phone booth in the city Monday afternoon, warned of "some incident," according to local media reports.

"The international airport manager and our deputy commandant received a call yesterday afternoon warning that there can be some incident at the Mumbai airport," a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokesperson told The Times of India.

It is unclear whether the warning was intended against Chhatrapti Shivaji International Airport in Sahar, or the smaller domestic airport in the suburb of Santa Cruz.

Officials downplayed the nature of the ambiguous threat.

"You cannot say it is a threat to blow up the airport or a warning about any sabotage activity. He has just said that there can be some incident at the airport," the spokesperson said. "We are taking the calls seriously and special measures have been taken."
