We'll See Your LEGO Whalejet, And Raise You A Maze
This is starting to get a tad surreal... less than one week
after Airbus announced, with tremendous fanfare, the delivery of
Singapore Airlines' first A380 (so what if it's a little smaller than
planned?) Boeing announced Tuesday that Puget
Sound-area residents will soon be able to run through a real-life
mockup of the upcoming 787 composite airliner... constructed of
real-life corn, no less.
That's right... the Dreamliner is the featured design for this
year's corn maze at Stocker Farms in Snohomish, WA. The maze will
use a series of trails throughout the 10-acre field to create the
design of a 787.
According to a Boeing press release, the theme of this year's
maze -- "Outstanding in Our Field" (pause for wry laughter -- Ed.)
-- "represents Boeing's commitment to excellence and innovation in
aerospace and Stocker Farms' excellence and innovation in
agritainment (agricultural entertainment) to help maintain a high
quality of life in the region."
We are not making this up.
"Boeing is proud that Snohomish County is the home of the 787
Dreamliner," said Jeff Hawk, 787 Certification, Environment,
Government, and SHEA director. "It has been a pleasure to partner
with Stocker Farms in creating an attraction that spotlights our
new airplane and will bring the community together to celebrate the
accomplishments of our local employees."
Those who may wish to run through the maze -- and yes, this
writer counts himself in that group -- may do so starting next
Friday, September 22, through October 31.
