West Star Aviation Sold to Sterling Group

MRO and Business Support Provider Changes Hands, Joins Aviation Umbrella

The investment firm that owned West Star Aviation, North East Partners, has sold the outfit to the Sterling Group, closing the deal on March 1st.

Sterling is an MRO service provider to a range of business aviation companies, a good fit for a new home. West Star  offers comprehensive business aviation capabilities, including repair and maintenance of airframes, engines and APUs, avionics installations and repair, major modifications, interior refurbishment, exterior paint, accessory services, and parts. West Star serves from a series of mobile repair bases and satellite MRO facilities, with parts supply and distribution handled through a series of subsidiary businesses: Avant Aerospace and Dallas Aeronautical Services. West Star has garnered a few awards over the years, making the #1 preferred MRO from 2014-2021 in PRASE surveys.

“NEP was steadfast in their partnership with our business, supporting our collective vision and helping to identify multiple ways in which our business could grow. NEP understood and shared our focus on enhancing our great culture and providing excellent customer service. The combination of NEP’s capital, strategic insight, and extensive resources, which included among others, operating partner Mike Gerend, guided us to a place where we can take it to the next level with the Sterling team,” stated Jim Rankin, West Star CEO. From here on out, it will be up to Sterling to help maintain the momentum built up by the company, following a 6-year streak of growth under its prior owner.
