Bolivia Suspends LaMia Airline Following Fatal Accident

Plane Went Down In Colombia With Brazilian Soccer Team On Board

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bolivia has suspended operating authority for LaMia Airline after an Avro RJ85 jet went down in Colombia resulting in the fatal injury of 71 of the 77 people on board.

The plane was carrying members of the Brazilian soccer team Chapecoense,  which was traveling to Colombia to compete in the Copa Sudamericana finals.

In a recording leaked to the media earlier this week, the pilot of the airplane can be heard asking several times for permission to land due to electrical problems and a lack of fuel aboard the airplane. The pilot was given instructions to land is the plane lost altitude about eight miles from the Medellin airport.

A Bolivian flight attendant who survived the crash told rescuers the plane had run out of fuel just before it went down.
