Date & Time: April 11, 2021, 16:38 Local Registration: N2030X
Aircraft: Cessna 182H Injuries: 2 None
Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General aviation - Personal

On April 11, 2021, about 1638 Pacific daylight time, a Cessna 182H, N2030X, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Blakely Island, Washington. The pilot and passenger sustained minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

The pilot reported that shortly after departing from runway 1 at Blakley Island Airport, he made a right turn and paralleled the eastern shoreline of the island. While over the waters of the Rosario Strait, at an altitude of about 700 ft above ground level, the engine sputtered once followed by a complete loss of power. The pilot initiated a forced landing to the water near the shoreline. During the landing, the airplane nosed over and submerged in about 50 ft of water.

Photographs provided by the recovery company revealed that left wing was structurally damaged. The wreckage was recovered to a secure location for further examination.
