Plaintiff Demands Lion Air Lawsuit Be Heard In Chicago

Suit Was Filed December 24 In Cook County Circuit Court

Relatives of a man who was fatally injured in October when a Boeing 737 MAX 8 went down in the Java Sea off the coast of Indonesia have filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois, demanding a jury trial in Chicago.

Boeing is based in Chicago. The suit was filed on December 24 on behalf of the estate of Sudibyo Onggo Wardoyo, who was among the 189 people on board the plane when it went down October 29.

Reuters reports that the suit alleges that the aircraft was "unreasonably dangerous" due to inaccurate data provided to flight control systems by on-board sensors, which caused the stall prevention system to engage when it was not needed. It further alleges that Boeing did not provide adequate instruction to pilots on how to deal with such a situation.

"It was like Boeing first blindfolded and then tied the hands of the pilots,” said lawyer Thomas Demetrio of Corboy & Demetrio, which is representing Onggo Wardoyo’s estate on behalf of the victim’s parents and three siblings.

Boeing did not return a request for comment.
