FedEx Flight Landing At Albuquerque Targeted By Laser

Flight Landed Safely, Both Pilots Treated For Temporary Eye Injuries

A FedEx Airbus airplane landing at Albuquerque (NM) International Sunport Saturday was targeted by someone with a green laser, and while the plane landed safely, both pilots were taken to a hospital for treatment of possible eye injuries.

The plane, arriving from Memphis, TN, landed safely on Runway 3, according to Abqjournal.com.

The FAA says that such laser incidents have been on the rise, increasing 14-fold since 2005. FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford said there were more than 4,000 such incidents reported nationally last year.

Aiming a laser at an aircraft was made a federal crime in 2012 as part of the "FAA Modernization and Reform Act", and carries maximum penalties of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The FAA can impose additional civil fines.
