Oshkosh 2013 Sponsor: Powerful Concorde Batteries
Concorde Battery Corporation has hand crafted safe and reliable batteries in West Covina, California for over 30 years.
The company started with a focus on dry charged (wet) lead acid batteries and manufactured dry charged batteries to military specifications and for civilian aircraft. In the 1980’s, Concorde designed an efficient and reliable pressure relief valve in concert with a high performance and highly reliable sealed valve regulated lead acid (VRLA), absorbed glass mat RG® battery. The sealed technology made a huge impact on the aviation community because of its safe, maintenance free and reliable characteristics.
The pressure relief valve in sealed lead acid batteries is designed to contain the oxygen and hydrogen gases produced during use so they can recombine upon charge thus replenishing the water that makes up the battery’s electrolyte. This process is referred to as recombinant gas technology and is where RG® batteries receive their name. RG® technology is preferred over flooded lead-acid batteries and nickel cadmium batteries due to their maintenance free characteristics. They do not require watering to maintain the correct level of electrolyte for proper functioning nor do they require the maintenance needed by nickel cadmium batteries to prevent a memory effect that results in aircraft down time. Our success with this technology has advanced Concorde’s battery applications from the traditional transport category aircraft to high performance aircraft and helicopters in the military sector. Likewise, our commercial success has advanced to over 30 OEMs worldwide.
All Concorde aircraft batteries are handcrafted by a staff with years of experience. Batteries are subjected to rigorous testing ensuring a properly functioning battery before moving to the next stage of manufacturing and receive a final test/inspection prior to shipment.
Concorde has a state of the art laboratory and places a high value on product improvement. In addition to frequent quality and performance checks throughout the manufacturing process batteries are selected at random from the line and tested to real world conditions ensuring top of the line performance.
There is a continuous focus on research and development to improve performance and design characteristics engineered by a staff of experts with the distinction of having been selected to write military aircraft battery specifications and participate in setting FAA and International Aircraft Battery Standards.
Concorde batteries are Original Equipment on over 30 US and International OEMs and have been adopted by US and International militaries. Concorde has a reputation for designing application specific solutions. Unlike many battery manufacturers, Concorde designs batteries to meet the customer’s requirements and currently offers over 90 different battery models.
