FlightSafety Tapped for Engineering Simulator, Curriculum for Lilium Jet

Full Flight Deck Sim to Function as Certification, Development Test Bed for Lilium Staff

Lilium has partnered with FlightSafety International to provide training on its upcoming eVTOL jet, selecting the enterprise as the sole developer and provider for such services.

FlightSafety will one day offer "industry-leading, immersive, and mixed reality simulators for training", with an early flight simulator representative of the Lilium Jet's cockpit for use in development. The engineering-oriented simulator, or e-Sim, will be integrated into Lilium’s ground-based aircraft systems integration laboratory and used to assist in testing and certification of the Jet. Having a functional simulator that mirrors the real-life prototype aircraft will enable pilot familiarization before true flight testing begins, providing a risk-free environment to eliminate bad habits and refine flight deck procedures.

While the development of a simulator for the manufacturer is attention-grabbing, FlightSafety will also devote its attentions to developing the actual pilot curriculum for students heading into the Lilium cockpit, with online training program modules expected to do the heavy lifting for both air and ground personnel. FlightSafety's experience in working with similarly positioned AAM companies continues to bear fruit for them, as they increasingly become the first choice to pave the way on groundbreaking aeronautical training.

Sebastien Borel, Chief Commercial Officer, Lilium said the joint effort would be vital for the company's certification efforts. “This partnership represents another critical milestone that will support the Lilium Jet’s progress through certification and commercial launch. Thanks to FSI’s vast experience and expertise in the field of aircraft simulators, we look forward to enabling all Lilium pilots to get familiar with our aircraft before commercial launch.”

“It is our mission to deliver best-in-class pilot training, globally, while working with new partners to bring new, sustainable modes of transport with cost effective training capabilities," said Nate Speiser, Executive VP of sales and marketing for FlightSafety. "We are excited to be working with leading eVTOL manufacturer Lilium, to advance and deliver training that empowers and prepares pilots for the world of eVTOL flight.”
