Kingston Technologies has informed ANN of the introduction
of their new AvTimer Plus; a portable, self contained box with
three functions: digital lapsed timer with audio input to headset
when time elapses; a 2 minute digital voice recorder and a cell
phone interface.
Weighing only 5.4 oz and measuring 4.5 inches by 2.5 inches,
this device was designed for general aviation pilots with safety in
mind. Created in part by veteran pilot Bill Psaledakis, AvTimer
Plus stemmed from the need to have some form of reminder to switch
fuel tanks before a pilot found themselves in a potentially
dangerous situation. The 2 minute digital voice recorder and the
cell phone interface were added as convenience features with safety
benefits.
Bob Lefevre, R&D specialist for AvTimer Plus and owner of
Kingston Technologies, applied his vast knowledge of aviation
headsets into the design of the AvTimer Plus. "The device is
designed to transmit an audible tone to the pilot's headset with a
10 second warning and visual flash and then a constant "beep" till
acknowledged and stopped when the time has elapsed."
The digital voice recorder can be used for in route clearances,
taxi instructions, amendments to routings, etc. AvTimer Plus' cell
phone interface allows the pilot to use their cell phone normally
while communicating through their headset. "It is now possible to
call for FBO service while still in the plane, or get important
weather updates" states Psaledakis. "Things happen, plans change
and until now, their has been no affordable or clear way to
communicate those issues."
AvTimer Plus will be available this summer for under $500.
