GoPro Sends Young Adults To The Sky

First Ever 'Go Fly' Scholarship Presented At AirVenture

GoPro has teamed up with the EAA Young Eagles division to help passionate aviation go-getters reach the sky. The first ever GoPro flight scholarship, dubbed “Go Fly,” was created to encourage young adults to follow their dreams of becoming a pilot.

The Go Fly Scholarship provides ample financial assistance for flight training school plus a one year EAA membership, and a GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition and all necessary mounts to capture and share milestones throughout their journey to becoming a licensed pilot. In May 2014, GoPro and the EAA encouraged individuals aged 16+ to submit a video, illustrating why they aspire to obtain their pilots license, for a chance to earn the Go Fly Scholarship.

GoPro Adventure Sports Marketing Manager, Gregg DiLeo, is thrilled to be working with EAA on the inaugural scholarship, stating, “GoPro cameras are such a big part of aviation. They are the perfect device for young pilots to capture their flight experiences and document their training and adventures. The cameras can also be used as an educational tool to help new aviators analyze their progress as they work their way through flight training.”

On Friday, August 1, GoPro and EAA will present the first Go Fly Scholarship certificate to 21-year-old Sarah Benish during the AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. A student at University of Wisconsin-Madison, Benish recorded a video that displayed her in depth knowledge of aviation, active participation in flight clubs (Young Eagles, Badger Aviators, Women SOAR) and current research at her university on air quality and air pollution. Her passion to reach the blue skies as a private pilot radiated from this video and resonated with the judging panel.

EAA Business Marketing Manager, Susan Levitte, couldn’t be more excited to award Benish with this amazing opportunity. “Partnering with GoPro on the Go Fly campaign was an easy decision, and Sarah will be an amazing ambassador for this first scholarship. What better way to show the world how much fun it is to learn how to fly than through a GoPro camera and the POV of an eager young aviator!”

GoPro athlete and World Champion aerobatics pilot, Kirby Chambliss, will present the scholarship to Benish at 1:15pm at the GoPro AirVenture booth. Benish will also be present to tell her story and answer any questions about her amazing passion and path towards flight.
