AMA Drone Report 01.09.20: Model Av PAC!, Karma Firmware Update, AMA v Remote ID

Also: Breaking Down Remote ID, Pegasus Mini, Phone Drone, Drone Swarm Update

No one has to tell you that recent FAA Decision-Making has been disastrous for model aviation... and if history is remotely correct, ultimately for the rest of aviation.

Reports from AMA, the hobby industry and major players in the model aviation community all indicate that confidence has been shaken in the future of model aviation... And now, the Model Aviation community is about to use a well-known political tool to build up an arsenal to fight the ignorant and damaging Washington processes that have hindered the future of a pivotal foundation for those coming into the aviation world. The formation of a Political Action Committee is about to be announced...GoPro has announced that it will be updating the firmware for its Karma drones this week. Multiple pilots reported that on January 1, 2020, their aircraft were unable to correctly receive GPS signals required to calibrate the internal compass on the drone, effectively grounding the aircraft. "If you’ve been unable to fly your Karma over the last few days, fear not! We’ve identified the cause and a fix is in the works," GoPro said in a statement posted on its website. "Our engineering team is testing a resolution and we expect to release a Karma firmware update within the week that will address the issue." AMA has published something a of a template that may be used for your responses to the Remote ID NPRM put forth by the FAA a few days back. Carefully noting that, “Model aviation is the natural precursor to careers in aviation, including commercial pilots and engineers and more – jobs which the U.S. desperately needs to fill. Model aviation supports a $1 billion hobby industry responsible for thousands of existing U.S. jobs. We simply cannot afford to further harm the model aviation hobby with overly burdensome requirements.” All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
