Michael Dyment: ADS-B Equipage Gaining Traction As Deadline Approaches

Jump-Start Programs Have Helped With Both -In and -Out Installations

NextGen GA Fund Boss, Michael Dyment (pictured) reports that the GA community seems to finally be taking the pending ADS-B 2020 mandate seriously. In conversation with ANN, Dyment reported that the firm positions taken by FAA Administrator Michael Huerta and the downward pricing pressures instigated by NGGAF's massive ADS-B product buy from L-3 (as well as other programs) has convinced GA pilots that upgrading to ADS-B is far more affordable than what was originally portrayed by some of the industry leadership and will allow them to avoid what is expecting to be a significant bottleneck as the deadline approaches in the next few years.

While the road has been a slow one, Dyment's group has been able to establish a $2000 entry-level benchmark with the first of their JumpStart programs, and successive programs have allowed for the financing of bigger and better ADS-B/PFD or ADS-B/PFD/MFD packages for as little as $250 per month. The latest development, Jumpstart-IN, also includes a $2000 avionics installation credit. Agreements and relationships in which the NextGen GA Fund has partnered with companies like Aspen Avionics, Avidyne, Freeflight, L-3, NavWorx, and Trig, promise further economies.

Dyment assures ANN that there are other programs under development and that the NextGen GA Fund is intensely interested in finding ways to ease the industry's transition to the future of ADS-B.
