FAA Clears Air Jamaica

No Problem, Mon

The Federal Aviation Administration has recertified Air Jamaica and domestic carrier Air Jamaica Express after completing a review of the operating manuals, procedures, resources, organizational structures and facilities of the island's two major airlines. The FAA is reported to have reaffirmed Category One status to the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA), the local aviation body.

"I am pleased (at the fact that we have fulfilled) what we said we would do and am also pleased with the presentation that the JCAA made to them (FAA),"said Transport and Works Minister Robert Pickersgill to the Jamaica Observer.

"They gave us a clean bill of health then but there were other outstanding matters," Pickersgill explained.

Five airline manuals needed to be changed to comply with new air traffic regulations. The airline had to pay substantial fines when the FAA determined that a proper system for enforcement of regulations was not in place.

"The fines have been paid."
