Harrison Ford Flies Again

Takes First Flight Since March Accident

Harrison Ford is once again exercising his airman privileges. The 72-year-old actor and aviation advocate flew his 2013 Bell 407 helicopter from Santa Monica Airport to Catalina Island off the California coast on Thursday of last week.

Access Hollywood reports that Ford and a friend flew the 43 miles to the island, and that he "seemed very excited about flying again."

A friend of Ford's told People Magazine that it was the first time he had been back to KSMO since experiencing engine problems in his 1942 PT-22 Recruit and making an off-airport landing at a golf course near KSMO. Ford suffered serious injuries in the accident, and those who saw him at the airport Thursday said he is still walking with a "slight limp."

The U.K. newspaper The Mirror reports that Ford's wife Calista Flockhart tried to convince the actor to give up flying after the accident, which many in the media have described as being a "near death" experience. But Ford's son Ben said in an interview with the celebrity television show Extra last week that the actor would be "up there flying again in no time."

Apparently he was right.
