Cirrus Design's Alan Klapmeier, On "The Culture Of Safety"
October, in the words of Cirrus Design co-founder Alan
Klapmeier... was a rotten month. The company was rocked by three
high-profile accidents, beginning with the crash of an SR20 piloted
by New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle and flight instructor Tyler
Stanger.
The news of a fatal series of accidents is hard for any
manufacturer... but arguably even more so for the folks at Cirrus,
who truly believe they're building the safest general aviation
aircraft on the market. But where does the responsibility for
safety ultimately lie -- with the plane, or the pilot?
In today's Aero-Cast special feature, Klapmeier tells ANN
Managing Editor Rob Finfrock that "the culture of safety" may begin
with the airplane... but it also goes far beyond that. From
teaching pilots to learn to fly at their own pace... to instilling
proper decision-making skills... to providing support and
instruction through an owners group environment... all are vital
tools in making sure Cirrus pilots are safe pilots.

background on the subjects that aviators and other aviation
professionals need to stay informed on.
- ANN's Daily 'ASR' Feature Aero-Cast: Our daily
'Aero-News Special Report' involves a more in-depth view of a story
