DOT IG Initiating NextGen Follow-Up Audit

Request Made By House Transportation Aviation Subcommittee Leadership

The DOT Office of Inspector General is initiating a follow-up audit on the FAA's progress with implementing high-priority Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) capabilities.

The audit is being conducted at the request of the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and its Subcommittee on Aviation. In September 2013, the NextGen Advisory Committee (NAC)  identified industry’s top priorities for NextGen. In November 2014, the IG's office issued an interim report on FAA’s response to the NAC’s priorities. The audit objectives in this follow-up audit will be to evaluate FAA’s (1) process for identifying risks to implementing the four prioritized NextGen capabilities, and (2) actions to mitigate any identified risks.

The audit will focus on the FAA’s progress in implementing the capabilities at a later time when the Agency and industry advanced efforts beyond the planning stages.

The audit process will begin later this month.
