China Encouraging Private Investments In Aviation, Airports

Some $16 Billion Is Targeted For Increased Competitiveness

China is encouraging private investment in more than two dozen aviation-related projects in an effort to make that sector more competitive globally.

Reuters reports there are 28 projects that need a combined $16 billion in funding. Eleven of those projects already have private investors. For example, the CAAC and the National Development and Reform Commission released a joint statement indicating that the Ezhou cargo airport in Hubei province has already seen an infusion of cast from Chinese courier S.F. Holdings.

The 17 projects still seeking funding include a flight training school, drone delivery development, and support services for a new airport in Beijing, according to the statement.

The government regulators say they will open up more projects to private investment, but did not offer any details about what those project might be.

The IATA says the Chinese aviation market is the fastest-growing in the world, and is expected to surpass the U.S. as the largest aviation market by 2020.
