It's Official! 'Romp Around Wisconsin' Is In The Record Books

NAA Verifies Charity Flight Around The State

Aero-News was happy to learn last week that the National Aeronautic Association has certified last month's "Romp Around Wisconsin" flight to all 104 airports with paved runways in the state as a US National record.

The final tally for pilot Matt McDaniel's and Dr. Bruce Kaufman's day-long charity flight, which took off on the morning of June 20 from Volk Field, was 16 hours, 42 minutes, 14 seconds.

That's the new time to beat for "Fastest Time to Visit All the Hard Surface Public Airports in Wisconsin."

While a national record IS, admittedly, a nice thing to lay claim to... the two men say that wasn't what the flight was all about. As Aero-News reported last month, the flight was also meant to raise needed funds for the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

And how did they do in that regard?

"More importantly, as of this writing, we have raised $12,120 for the kids!" McDaniel and Kaufman (below) told ANN via email. "I'd like to point out that that amount is based solely on donations from private individuals (no big corporate donations or sponsorships were involved in any way).  We hope that amount will continue to grow, as we plan to leave the information/donation website up for the remainder of the year.

"We hope to display the aircraft ("Blue Kids One") at several airshows and fly-in's throughout the summer and fall to continue to raise awareness and funds for the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin's Pediatric Neurosurgery Department," the men added.
