Piper Apache Pilot Says He Collided With A UAV

Report Unconfirmed, But Airplane Damaged

There has been an unconfirmed report that a Piper PA-23-250 was involved in a mid-air collision with a small UAS near Lewis University in Illinois last week.

Images posted to the sUAS website show damaged to the leading edge of one of the horizontal stabilizers of the airplane. The site said the unconfirmed report it had received indicted that the aircraft, which sUAS identified as a Piper Apache, was hit on the wing. "Looks like it was the tail that was hit," reads a caption on one of the photos. The collision reportedly occurred at about 2,500 feet agl.

The manned airplane carried the registration number N900AM. The FAA's initial incident report indicates that the "aircraft struck an unknown object while in flight" near Romeoville, IL on August 27th.

The airplane is registered to Aerial Imaging Inc. of South Bend, IN.

No other details are available, and the plane landed safely.
