Hours Reduced At Naval Aviation Museum In Pensacola, FL

All Navy Museums To Be Closed On Mondays Due To Sequestration

The Navy said Friday will close the museums it operates to absorb reductions resulting from the announced federal furlough one day a week beginning the week of July 8 until further notice. Among them is the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, FL.

The Navy museums plan to otherwise continue their normal business operations on weekends and holidays during the furlough period, except Labor Day because it falls on a Monday. Before planning to visit, the Navy recommends checking museum hours before arriving.

The Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC), which operates the Navy's museums, will close on Mondays during the furlough as well. The headquarters had previously closed the archives to general visiting.

The museum had been a popular site for viewing the Blue Angels as they practiced their routines from their home base of Pensacola Naval Air Station, however those practices were canceled by the Navy back in April when the team's show schedule for the year was scrapped. The team has been reduced to flying 11 hours per week to maintain basic proficiency, but those flight are not in formation.
