United Pilots Call On President Trump To Cancel Norwegian Authorization

Says The Agreement Will 'Kill The Airline Industry'

United Pilots Master Executive Council chairman Capt. Todd Insler has written a letter to President Donald Trump urging him to reverse the operating authority granted to Norwegian Air International by the Obama administration.

The Chicago Business Journal reports that in the letter, Insler called on Trump to immediately begin strict enforcement of the Open Skies agreement with the European Union signed in 2007 during the Presidency of George W. Bush. Insler holds that NAI has circumvented that agreement by using low-ball labor contracts that cannot be matched by U.S. carriers.

The lower labor costs allow NAI to offer substantially lower international fares, making U.S. airlines like United less competitive.

Insler said in the letter that the "wrong-headed" decision by the Obama administration will "destroy our U.S Airline industry and all of the jobs associated with it."

President Trump has not yet responded to the letter, according to the report.
