DFW Instrument Merges With Red Aviation

Will Provide Third-Party Alternative To OEMS For BizAv And GA Aftermarket Support

Texas-based DFW Aviation has merged with Red Aviation to form DFW Aviation, which hopes to provide third-party aftermarket support for business and general aviation.

MRO Network reports that the two companies initially began working together in 2015 after both were purchased by the same private equity group, and combined into one business unit in March, 2018.

Josh Abelson, CEO of DFW Aviation said that the decision to fully merge was prompted by an opportunity to reduce overlapping markets and customers, streamline the company’s focus areas and create a new ability to provide a one-stop-shop opportunity to customers. He said Red Aviation had focused primarily on structural repairs, while DFW Instrument specialized in avionics and instruments. The merged company can provide a larger repair footprint and broader service offerings.

The company will focus on Bombardier and Cessna aircraft, and the maintenance arm will be largely focused on Beechcraft King Air airplanes, which are particularly prevalent in Texas, according to Albhson.

He added that the merged company plans to gro service offerings for the operator community.
