Bullets, Clip Found In Airliner Overhead Compartment

Aircraft searched, cleared after pax finds clip after boarding

Officials at the Oakland International Airport confirmed that bullets loaded into a magazine clip for a firearm were found on one of their outgoing flights on Thursday.

Airport spokesperson Rosemary Barnes confirmed that a passenger on the aircraft belonging to an unidentified airline and bound for Chicago (IL), found the magazine and bullets in an overhead compartment. The incident took palace just before 1700.

TSA and Oakland Police Department personnel then deplaned the passengers and rescreened them while simultaneously searching the aircraft. About an hour later, the passengers were cleared, no further contraband was found on the aircraft and the flight departed for Chicago.

Security personnel at the airport said the incident is under investigation to find the owner of the ammunition and magazine, and that they have no idea how the items got into the cabin in the first place.
