Cessna 172 Lost Power After Departing John Wayne Airport

A student pilot mad a successful emergency landing on a busy city street in California last Friday after the Cessna 172 she was flying out of John Wayne Airport lost power.

The pilot, a young woman who was not named, landed on a street in Huntington Beach, according to a report from television station KCAL.

The pilot was taking flight training at Orange County Flight Center. She landed on Hamilton Street, according to airport officials.

Huntington Beach Police Chief Robert Handy said that the pilot did an "amazing job putting her plane down" after it lost power shortly after takeoff from John Wayne airport.

A witness told KABC that the pilot flew the plane underneath low-hanging power lines before touching down on the street.
