Two More Air Shows Fall By The Wayside

Both Rocky Mountain Air Shows Have Been Cancelled For 2016

Colorado air show enthusiasts are going to find their options limited this summer after the cancellation of both Rocky Mountain Air Shows for 2016.

Television station KUSA reports that shows scheduled for the Aurora Reservoir and the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport have been cancelled for this year.

In Aurora, city officials said they were having a difficult time getting organizers on board and scheduling meetings. There were issues with the inaugural show at Aurora Reservoir last year, and thousands of those who had bought tickets were unable to get into the show because of traffic congestion. Refunds were promised for those with unused tickets.

City officials say they are optimistic that they will be able to organize a show for the reservoir in the future.

There were different issues at Rocky Mountain Metro Airport. The director there said that the show had been cancelled in 2014 due to construction at the airport, and that attendance was down at last year's show. Airport Director Bryan Johnson said that in a normal year, about 30,000 people would attend the show, but the 2015 edition drew only about 7,000. The poor attendance in 2015 led to the cancellation of the 2016 show, a mutual decision on the part of the airport and the air show's producer.

Both air shows were organized by Colorado Sport Aviation.
