Aerojet Successfully Tests Miniature Control System

Soild Fuel Propellant Used For Divert/Attitude Maneuvering

Aerojet, a GenCorp company, recently completed a successful test firing of a miniature solid propellant divert and attitude control system (DACS) for the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

The test was an important milestone in Aerojet's development of a solid propellant DACS for Missile Defense applications. Initial test results indicate the system successfully met all objectives.

Aerojet's miniature DACS technology is applicable to Missile Defense interceptors with multiple kill vehicles on a single payload. The inherent safety and insensitive munitions characteristics of Aerojet's solid propellant technology are attractive for mobile and sea-based interceptor deployments, according to the company.

"This highly successful test builds upon several years of Aerojet's internal research and development of solid propellant technology for DACS systems," said Aerojet Vice President of Defense Programs, Dick Bregard. "This system leverages the mature throttling solid DACS (TDACS) technology currently under development for the SM-3 Block 1B Interceptor program and other potential applications."

Aerojet is developing its unique technology on a contract through the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT) for the Missile Defense Agency.
