Man Detained After Bringing Crocodiles Onboard Carryon Luggage

Late Entry Into "Weirdest Headline Of '06" Contest Shows Promise

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever put in your carry on bag? No doubt baggage screeners around the world over can share some odd stories... but we doubt many could top this one.

Officials at Manila airport detained a Filipino man flying home from Cambodia. He said he had live fish in his carry on. Now, live fish in your luggage is weird... but not THAT weird.

What’s really weird about this case is Enrique Castillo wasn’t carrying fish... he was carrying three live one-and-a-half-foot long crocodiles!

The Associated Press reports authorities had been tipped that Castillo might try to sneak some in. He'd earlier been denied a permit to import the endangered crocs.

There’s no word on exactly what Castillo might have wanted with the crocodiles. In any case, he’s now facing charges.

Oh... and the crocs are safely in custody of the Philippine Department of Environmental and Natural Resources. Hopefully, they’ve found something better than a carry-on suitcase to transport them back home.
