Aero-TV: Goes Like Heck! - Wipaire's Boss 182 Amphibious Conversion

Upgrades For Your 182…

Sun ‘n Fun 2016 presented the opportunity to see some really interesting things, and a hopped-up Cessna 182 on floats, called the Wipaire Boss 182 Amphibious, runs pretty high on the list for displaying the, “Right stuff.”

ANN’s News Editor, Tom Patton, had the opportunity to stop by the Wipaire display to take a look at this mean looking piece of machinery. To get the scoop, Tom met up with Brittnie Brink, who is with aircraft sales at the Wipaire Company.

Brink said the company takes Cessna 182s ranging from 1997 to 2004 models and puts in a “really big engine.” The standard Continental 540 is replaced with a Lycoming 580 which increases the horsepower from 230 to 315. A healthy gross weight increase is also part of the modification.

Brink explains that the modification is so extensive that it took five or six years of engineering to reach the point that they are at today. She also said that Wipaire can provide a ready to go 182 Boss on floats, or they can modify the owner’s existing airplane.

As the interview continues you’ll hear more details about the engine, the propeller, and the aircraft performance. Brink also discusses the handling performance on the floats, and she gets into the cost of the modification.
