Jeppesen Introduces Electronic Flight Folder Services

Enhances Airline Flight Planning Operations, Company Says

Jeppesen recently introduced a new Electronic Flight Folder service to enhance flight planning operations for airlines. The new Electronic Flight Folder service increases situational awareness in flight for pilots and improves ground-to-air communication and integration of digital flight plan information.

“The Electronic Flight Folder solution works seamlessly for airlines that use Jeppesen’s flight planning systems to enhance operational efficiency,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. “The Jeppesen and Boeing Electronic Flight Folder tools work together on the ground and in the air to improve integration of critical flight planning data across a mixed aircraft fleet and works with multiple EFB configurations to suit unique airline operations.”

The Electronic Flight Folder service eliminates preparation and handling of paper-based flight planning documents through wireless delivery of digital flight plan information to an airline’s electronic flight bag (EFB) system. Elimination of paper-based flight plan information reduces workload for dispatch staff and simplifies the sharing of critical data between ground operations and the aircraft’s EFB. Pilot situational awareness in flight also is improved, through at-a-glance access to critical data on screen, instead of sifting through cumbersome paper charts and documents.

The new Jeppesen Electronic Flight Folder supports industry-standard ARINC 633 flight plan data, including text based weather information, NOTAMs, a copy of the dispatched flight release, and a copy of the ICAO flight plan, all in digital form. The Jeppesen Electronic Flight Folder service will now be included as a part of Jeppesen’s flight planning airline solution.

Available through an additional subscription service, the Boeing Electronic Flight Folder solution works in tandem with the Jeppesen version to manage flight plan documents, track flights and make updates or adjustments to flight plans, as necessary.
