While at the Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas in January 2017, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell visited with a drone manufacturer by the name of GDU. Jim spoke with Nicolia Wiles, who is the Director of Digital at GDU. Wiles says it’s all about innovation and their company believes modularity is going to be the hot topic for drones in 2017.
Wiles says they are specializing in a drone design they refer to as a “universal flying platform.” He describes this term as meaning one drone can be used for numerous applications.
Their universal flying platform is primarily for the purpose of imaging, and is designed to provide a single capable drone that can be easily changed to different cameras and imaging systems. He also points out that unlike other drones that are dedicated to one camera system, their entire drone does not go down because a camera won’t function properly. You simply switch out the imaging system.
In the video, you’ll see their latest model known as the BYRD Premium 2.0. Wiles explains the details of this vehicle and includes specifics about technical advances. Their drone is definitely aimed at the commercial market and you’ll get a chance to see its various camera options as the drone is shown in operation.
