Elbit Systems To Introduce Helicopter ClearVision At Heli-Expo

Enhanced Flight Vision System Solution For Rotary-Wing Platforms

Elbit Systems will introduce a helicopter version of its ClearVision EFVS at Heli-Expo 2015 in Orlando, FL next week.

The system is based on the ClearVision EFVS for fixed-wing platforms and provides helicopter pilots with increased situational awareness, enhanced safety and continuous flight in “head-up” operation.

The system, which is comprised of enhanced vision technology and a lightweight wearable Head Up Display (HUD), has already been proven in flight on-board various types of helicopter platforms.

This system has already been demonstrated successfully in flights on-board various types of helicopter platforms. The company said in a news release that pilots who have flight tested the system attested to its significant contribution to flight safety and to its maturity. The pilots also expressed their desire to fly the system in their routine missions.

Helicopter ClearVision covers the full flight envelope and is designed to improve the accessibility of helicopters to destinations which suffer from limiting weather conditions and low visibility situations in day and night. The solution is comprised of the HeliEVS camera and the Skylens wearable HUD or the SkyVis Head Mounted Display (HMD), in order to address both non-helmet and helmet users.

The Helicopter ClearVision solution integrates electronic vision sensors and head-up display technology, enabling continuous and unobstructed flying in ‘head up’ orientation, improves flight safety and situational awareness, increases mission success rates and minimizes the dependency on airport and helipad instruments.  The system will also contribute to the reduction of landing minima in the future.

The system is in advanced stages of development and certification for commercial aviation and certification with EASA and FAA.
