ANN Breaking News: Cirrus 'Sets the Bar' for GA, $189K PFD Equipped 4-Place!

New Cirrus SRV to Feature Glass Cockpit--How Do You Beat That?

Cirrus Design has JUST announced the launching of a new airplane model, the SRV. The new plane will debut at EAA's AirVenture on July 29, 2003.

The SRV has similar styling, design and avionics to the company's SR20 model, with one clear exception. The SRV is certified for VFR flight only, keeping the cost down to a base price of $189,900. Standard in this, and all Cirrus aircraft is the company's Primary Flight Display (PFD), as well as Multi Function Displays (MFD), a standard feature not available in any other personal aircraft in this class.

"Many pilots aren't certified, or simply don't have the need or desire to fly IFR," said Cirrus Design CEO Alan Klapmeier. "With the SRV, these pilots can still fly the most technologically advanced aircraft in its class without the need for the redundant avionics that IFR flight requires. And for only $999 per month, VFR pilots can benefit from the renown safety, comfort and innovation found in every Cirrus."

The SRV base model can be enhanced with a three optional upgrade packages - Touring Package, LX (leather) Interior Package and the Cross Country Package with autopilot.  Additionally, a wide range of stand alone options are also available including but not limited to EX5000C, VFR/PFD B Version (that supports the 55SR autopilot), GNS 430 GPS/Nav/Comm, nose wheel fairing, dual alternator, leather interior, 3 blade propeller, and more.

Klapmeier anticipates that the first SRV will be delivered in October after revealing the aircraft for the first time at Oshkosh in late July.
