Liberty Takes FAA To Task For Claim XL-2 Was Subject To SCR

Small Aircraft Doctorate Disagrees, Planemaker Adds

Melbourne, FL-based planemaker Liberty Aerospace wants the record set straight on the FAA's claim in a Wednesday press release that Liberty's XL-2 was among a number of airplanes on the market that have been subjected to a Special Certification Review by the FAA.

As ANN reported, the FAA issued the release in relation to an SCR now underway at Eclipse Aviation, for its beleaguered Eclipse 500 very-light jet. The agency claimed Liberty was subject to a similar review in 2008... but that's not the case, Liberty says.

Furthermore, the FAA's admitted it.

Liberty has been in contact with the FAA's Small Airplane Directorate, and they acknowledged the statement was made in error, according to the planemaker.

Liberty adds it has "never received from the FAA a single Customer Service Difficulty Report nor has the FAA issued an Airworthiness Directive (AD) against the XL-2." The planemaker has over 130 XL-2s in service.
